This one started from scratch - and we mean that literally. The old roofing system on this Leonia home had run its course. When we stripped everything back, we found the decking underneath needed to go too. So that's exactly what we did. Full tear-off, full decking replacement, and a brand-new roofing system built from the ground up.

Here's why the decking matters so much. Most homeowners think about shingles when they think about a roof replacement - and understandably so. But the decking is the structural base that everything sits on. If it's soft, warped, or deteriorating, you're just layering new materials over a compromised foundation. Replacing it at the same time as the roofing system is the only way to know the whole thing is solid.

For the new system, we went with IKO Dynasty Performance shingles in Summit Gray. It's a premium shingle - thick, dimensional, and built to handle whatever New Jersey weather throws at it. The Summit Gray color works really well on this home too. It has a natural, multi-toned look that reads clean from the street and complements the light exterior of the house.

The scope of this job was significant. You can see from the mid-project photos that the entire roof was opened up - bare rafters, fully exposed. That's not a small undertaking in a dense Bergen County neighborhood. Keeping the job organized and the surrounding property protected is just as important as the install itself, and our crew handled both.

The finished roof sits tight and clean across a fairly complex roofline with multiple hips, valleys, and dormers. Every ridge, hip, and valley line is straight and consistent. That's what a properly installed system looks like - and it's built to hold up for decades.
